This is why we microchip

The puppy on the far right, Trey, from the Flame x Sig litter, is now 7 years old. Due to the declining health of his owner, he wound up at an Animal Shelter. For whatever reason, the owners did not contact me directly. But the microchip was scanned. And thanks to Diane Turner, I was contacted immediately. After a flurry of phone calls and calling in multiple favors from my network around the country, Trey will be returned to us.

My first request is, please, please, please remember that if FOR ANY REASON AT ALL you are no longer able to care for your Scotiadawg, know that the dog will ALWAYS be welcome here.

Please call me first. This is actually part of the contract you signed. I encourage owners to include my contact information in their will/living will/emergency contacts so this NEVER happens to another one of my kids.

My second note is an enormous thanks to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa for being willing to allow Trey to return to us. Too often shelters and rescues are vilified for NOT returning dogs to their breeders. It has happened to me, personally. I am more than happy to give a huge shoutout to this organization for their support and kindness. In fact, I added a significant donation on top of the “bail” money for his release.

Third, breeders, keep your name on the microchips in your dogs! This is the only way I found out about this situation and was able to resolve it in Trey’s best interest.

Fourth, another HUGE shoutout to my friends and dog family for dropping everything halfway across the country to drive hours to help me and Trey. I will never be able to thank you enough.
