Hi, I’m Laura Reeves!
I’m the breeder behind The Scotia Kennel located in Grants Pass, Oregon. The Scotia Kennel is dedicated to upholding the integrity of its Registry.
Promoting the sport of purebred dogs and breeding for type and function. Founded in 1982, The Scotia Kennel advocates for the purebred dog as a family companion, advances canine health and well being and works to protect the rights of all dog owners and promotes responsible dog ownership.
Laura is an AKC Breeder of Merit, an AKC judge and the host of the Pure Dog Talk podcast. In addition to her work on Pure Dog Talk, Laura co-hosts The Marty and Laura Show, a spin off podcast where they explore a wide range of topics about all animals such as dogs, cats, birds and beyond!

The story behind the name.
The Scotia Kennel is a breeder of German Wirehaired Pointers. As our name implies, The Scotia Kennel was named after our family heritage, my mother was almost entirely Scottish, and my father’s family emigrated from England to Nova Scotia, which means, “New Scotland” in Latin. Our Scotiadawgs are raised with intention, blending affection and structure to create confident companions and capable working dogs.
A life given to the breed.
Laura’s work reaches well past her own dogs. As an AKC judge and a mentor to the next generation of breeders, and through two podcasts, she gives back to the sport that shaped her.
Pure Dog Talk
The number one purebred dog podcast in the world. Every week Laura talks with the legends of the sport and shares the tools to build a great life with your dog.
The Marty and Laura Show
Laura and Dr. Marty Greer go beyond the show ring to talk dogs, cats, birds and everything in between. Good company for anyone who loves their animals.
Form and function. Sensible and kind.
Every Scotia litter is planned for both: the breed standard for appearance and structure, and the unwritten standard for health, temperament and working ability. Nothing is left to chance.
This is a breed created to do many jobs. I strive to retain that work ethic in all my dogs, bred and raised to be sensible and kind. Laura Reeves
