A promise for all dogkind.
We know that a dog is much more than a dog, they are a member of the family and a best friend for life. Responsible breeding requires planning, skill and experience, it is not just pairing two healthy dogs together.
Four standards behind every litter.
Health Screening
Every dog in our program undergoes thorough health testing including hip and elbow evaluations, eye exams and genetic screens. This ensures heritable conditions are minimized and puppies have the best chance at long healthy lives.
Temperament and Personality
We assess each dog’s personality in the home, in training and in the field. Our goal is to ensure puppies inherit not just good looks and health but confidence, kindness and adaptability.
Conformation and Pedigree
Each breeding dog meets breed standards for appearance and structure. Pedigree review ensures we preserve desired traits while minimizing genetic risk.
Matching and Placement
Thoughtful pairings are key. We consider health, temperament and conformation when selecting parents. Every puppy is placed in a home suited to their personality and abilities.
What every Scotia dog is tested for.
Before any breeding decision, both parents are cleared for the conditions that matter in the breed. No exceptions.
Hips
OFA evaluation to screen for hip dysplasia before breeding.
Elbows
OFA evaluation to rule out elbow dysplasia.
Eyes
A CAER exam by a veterinary ophthalmologist.
Heart
OFA cardiac evaluation for a sound, healthy heart.
Genetic DNA panel
DNA screening for the heritable conditions known in the breed.
Completed before any breeding decision, every time.
A guarantee, and a promise for life.
A written health guarantee
Every Scotia puppy goes home with a written health guarantee, backed by the health testing behind the litter. [ Add your guarantee terms here: how long it lasts and what it covers. ]
A home for life
A Scotia dog always has a home with us. If your circumstances ever change, at any point in your dog’s life, we will take the dog back. No Scotia dog ends up in a shelter.
