PROFESSIONAL HANDLING FOR SELECT CLIENTS

GERMAN WIREHAIRED POINTERS FROM CAREFULLY PLANNED LITTERS

The Scotia Kennel was founded by Laura Reeves. Laura's background includes involvement with breeding, training, and handling purebred dogs since 1982.

With her parents, Laura handled and trained the sporting dogs of the RBD Kennel. RBD Clumber Spaniels are renowned throughout the country for both their show ring success and their re-introduction of the breed into field competition.

It was from her family that Laura first learned the importance of breeding sporting dogs that are not just pretty and not just hunting fools. RBD champions were the first Clumber Spaniels to achieve Working Dog titles and later Junior Hunters. An RBD Clumber, also a bench champion, was the first of the breed to achieve its Senior Hunter

Laura is continuing the tradition of dual-purpose dogs at The Scotia Kennel. She also offers professional handling for select clients. From her you will find a wide range of dog experience, commitment to excellent ring presentation, and honesty to a fault.

Laura is now sharing her knowledge with the public through her online writing. Visit often to see what's new!

Scotia Kennels Mission Statement

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

At The Scotia Kennel, breeding German Wirehaired Pointers is about the whole dog.

The philosophy is built on the concept that GWPs can and should be able to do it all. This means they should meet the breed standard, which doesn't always mean they'll win the most dog shows. This means they should be able and willing to find a bird and bring it back in any terrain, which doesn't always mean they'll win the most field trials. This means health testing and honesty about the results is more important than whether everyone breeds to one of our stud dogs. This means that temperament evaluations cannot be kennel blind.

This mission ensures that when the plan comes together, which it does pretty regularly, the best of the dogs will compete quite successfully in dog shows, field trials, hunt tests, agility, obedience and much more. And some of these dogs will continue to contribute to the gene pool to improve the quality of the breed. The rest of the dogs will live their days as happy, healthy hunting dogs and companions, providing lasting joy and love to their families.

Focusing on the whole dog guarantees that our plan is to make an honest, well-rounded dog. It means that when the plan doesn't come together, as sometimes happens, we'll learn from it, stand behind the dogs we sell and honestly share the information we've acquired the hard way.

At The Scotia Kennel, we applaud the fact that top breeders today are in constant competition to see who has the best-looking, best-working dog. This is the very best news of all. None of us may take the same road, but we're all trying to get to the same place. That pays tremendous benefits to the breed and its fanciers on a long-term basis.
